(it wanted money if it "fixed" it)  She didn't know where this program came from so I did some goggling and found out this was a type of a bad spyware that can get into your computer.  I tried and tried to get it out, even on safe mode but it wouldn't come out.  Finally I went to system restore (she said it had been on there a couple of weeks) I went back a few weeks and it got rid of it.  I also put the ibod program on there for her.  She had a Mcaffe virus card that she wanted on her computer and when I tried to get that on there it said some kind of program (AIG or something like that that started with an A) was on there and it couldn't download with that program on there.  I went to add & remove programs and found that and it wouldn't remove it.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

Typically things that tell you that you have a bunch of problems and ask you for money to fix them are scams at best, viruses or spyware at worst.  Never give them any credit card or bank information, or you might just find your account maxed out soon after.

Was the program that you couldn't uninstall AVG?  I'm not sure how to get that off if it isn't in the add/remove programs list in the control panel.  If it is an older version, you could try installing the newest free version, which should overwrite the old version, then uninstall that.  You could also check the forums on the AVG web site to see if someone else has had the same problem.  They might have some instructions or even small programs that can be downloaded to fix it.  Sorry I can't be more help right now, biut I'm at work...

I ran into a problem removing a virus program.  Come to find out selecting quit, on it's menu page, didn't completly shut it down.  It only put it into a 'standby' mode.  Uninstall programs won't work on programs that are running.  I had to go to the task manager/processes and do an end process.  Then I could go to the control panel and uninstall it.

Also, I had another program, that the grandkids put on the computer, that had a different name than the one the icon showed.  Had a heck of a time figuring out what the actual program name was.  I had to do a search, looking for files that had the icon name in it.
