By the way, I doubt you hurt your camera...

Here is the most original picture I think I've seen of the eclipse, taken by someone in Japan on an iPhone.  It was 3 separate pictures they merged together.

Seriously, those things are dangerous and get more so the older they get. A telescope collects so much light and concentrates it that these filters can get VERY hot quickly, and have been known to essentially explode, and leave you looking at the Sun with a telescope and no protection.

Get a telescope especially made for viewing the Sun, or a Herschel Wedge (make sure you know how to use it!), or a filter that fits on the other end of the scope, filtering out the light BEFORE it enters the scope. Whatever filter you get or make, MAKE SURE IT FITS TIGHT!! Baader Planetarium makes a plastic film for solar filtering that is very popular and safe. Make sure if you get that to make a solar filter, get the VISUAL version. They make an imaging version that is not safe for looking through with your eyes. It is made for cameras, and does not filter sunlight enough to be safe visually.

It's a lot of fun looking at sunspots and such. I need to get some of that film so I can do it with my own telescope.


That is absolutely essential.  The filter must be in front of the objective lens not on the eyepiece.

I never could figure out how that thing came off because it was a tight fit and  the binoculars were pointing up.  There were other people around including some kids so who knows what happened.

One more thing about welders glass, NEVER look at the sun through a welding mask.  The ones you can buy at a welder's supply store are not dark enough.  You have to special order #14 glass.

Marvel Comics has chosen to dish out a same sex marriage between 2 male superheroes for the fan's reading 'pleasure.'  Joyous fans around the country who support 'gay marriage' have huge wedding celebration parties planned to coincide with the issue's release date/s.....2 issues are involved in this brave new PC world, in-your-face tale of no-longer-forbidden love.

I read and watch movies to be entertained, as an escape from the constant pressures of life as it has become in the ObamaNation.  I don't look for more opportunities to sit through controversial issues, much less be completely grossed-out.  It's bad enough Walt Disney productions has been ruined and can no longer be counted on for uplifting, encouraging features...now Marvel feels compelled to treat a vastly unwilling reading audience to a gag-a-thon.  It will be interesting to see if the seats are sold out when they decide it's hip and trendy to bring this abomination to the big screen.  Meanwhile, I guess we'd all better retreat into our childhood copies of Nursery Rhymes if we're looking for reading material that doesn't make our eyes bulge out of our heads or bring last night's dinner up.

Thanks Aldebaran and GaCDBfan.  We did have cloud cover here, that's why I thought it would be safe to take the pictures.  When the clouds moved away it was really, really bright and I didn't look at it through viewfinder. :)

That's funny, Herb. Personally, I think it is probably more the other way around. They (many, not all) are food snobs, and are judgmental about those who aren't as careful about what they eat. Vegetarians and particularly vegans are the worst. They tend to act VERY holier than thou about caring about animal welfare.

Neighbor ends 94-year-old man's 30-year tradition

SANTA ROSA, Calif. —

A World War II veteran built a cross on a Santa Rosa hillside three decades ago and has maintained it ever since, but now he's being kept from his livelihood.

Arvo Kannisto, a 94 year-old man, told KTVU he is now no longer permitted on the property where the cross sits and he's heartbroken.

The 100-feet long cross, made of painted rocks, sits atop a Santa Rosa hillside can be seen for miles.

Kannisto said he built this cross 31 years ago and has been maintaining it ever since.

"This cross (is a symbol of love)," Kannisto said. "There is too much hate in the world."

The owner of the property where the cross sits told Kannisto he can't go up there anymore. And that's softened the retired World War II lieutenant colonel and former San Francisco police lieutenant so much that he can't talk about it without breaking into tears.

The huge, white cross embedded for more than 30 years in an east Santa Rosa hillside has begun to fade away now that the landowner has told the

Taking care of the cross, consisting of thousands of whitewashed rocks, since 1981 has been the personal mission of Arvo Kannisto, a wiry and ardent Christian, war veteran and retired San Francisco police lieutenant.
Kannisto kept a promise to himself to honor his faith and his fellow World War II combatants who lie beneath crosses throughout Europe. But he failed to honor his vow to the owner of the hillside behind the St. Francis Acres and Skyhawk residential developments east of Calistoga Road and north of Sonoma Highway.
Their agreement specified that only Kannisto was permitted to go onto the land to maintain the cross. But frequently over the years, Kannisto allowed others onto the hillside.

:X:X:X  How dare he?  How dare he deny Mr. Kannisto something so simple that brings him so much peace and comfort?  Liability??  Yeah right I also believe pigs fly and one day that money tree will sprout from the quarter I planted in my yard.  I'd let Mr. Kannisto continue to work on that cross as long as he wanted,  given his age I doubt that he'll continue all that much longer, what is he hurting?

Douglas Flint Dillard (1937-2012)
Nashville, Tenn. - Bluegrass banjo virtuoso Doug Dillard died on Wed. May 16, 2012, after a long illness. He was 75.
Douglas, the second of three sons in the musical family of Lorene and Homer Earl Dillard, was born Mar. 6, 1937 in East St. Louis, Ill. and grew up in Salem, MO.
Doug learned his own style of three-finger picking by listening to the early recordings of Earl Scruggs, Don Reno and Ralph Stanley.
In the mid to late 1950's, Doug and brother Rodney with other friends formed The Ozark Mountain Boys band. Later, Doug and Rodney joined Joel Noel and The Dixie Ramblers which soon after was renamed The Dillard Brothers.
The Dillards went on to play and perform as The Darlings on the Andy Griffith Show, which included Denver Pyle as Briscoe Darling and Margaret Ann Peterson who played the sister, Charlene.

More tragedy

This girl was a close friend of my 14 year old granddaughter.  They went to grade school together and spent a lot of time at each other's homes.  Aaliyah was a really great kid.

I don't know what kind of problems they had but the few times I met the parents they seemed like really great people.

When my grandaughter found out she really came unglued. 

Can't seem to get our heads wrappped around this kind of thing.

There will be a transit of Venus (Venus will pass across the face of the sun) starting tomorrow at around 5 PM central time until sundown.  If you know someone with a telescope and a solar filter give it a peek.  The next transit of Venus is in 105 years.

Cool!  I was busy with my boys' Boy Scout troop's summer camp, teaching merit badges and such, and I didn't get to see it.  It was cloudy here that day too, but I heard someone used an old binocular half to do a projection for some of the boys for a few minutes that it came out from behind the clouds.  I was busy teaching archery merit badge pretty deep in the woods.  We wouldn't have been able to see it where we were.

I got this from one of my sisters this morning.  I odn't know if it is true or not.  Didn't bother to check it because it does make sense to pay attention. 

Although this is addressed to women, the same ploy could be used against men.

I live in Alexandria, VA, but I often work in Lafayette , LA, staying with friends when I'm there. As you know from America's Most Wanted TV program, as well as the news media, there is a serial killer in the Lafayette area. I just want to let you know about an 'incident' that happened to me a few weeks ago, and could have been deadly..
At first I didn't go to the police
or anyone with it because I didn't realize how serious this encounter was. But since I work in a jail and I told a few people about it, it wasn't long before I was paraded into Internal Affairs to tell them my story. It was approximately 5:15 a.m. In Opelousas, La. I had stayed with a friend there and was on my way to work.
I stopped at the Exxon/Blimpie Pie station to get gas. I got $10 gas and a Diet Coke. I took into the store two $5 bills and one $1 bill (just enough to get my stuff). As I pulled away from the store, a man approached my truck from the back side of the store (an unlit area). He was an approachable-looking man (clean cut, clean shaven, dressed well, etc..). He walked up to my window and knocked. Since I'm very paranoid and always looking for the rapist or killer, I didn't open the window.
I just asked what he wanted. He raised a $5 bill to my window and said, 'You dropped this.' Since I knew I had gone into the store with a certain amount of money, I knew I didn't drop it.
When I told him it wasn't mine, he began hitting the window and door, screaming at me to open my door, and insisting that I had dropped the money! At that point, I just drove away as fast as I could..
After talking to the Internal Affairs Department and describing the man I saw, and the way he escalated from calm and polite to angry and volatile...it was determined that I could have possibly encountered the serial killer myself.
Up to this point, it had been unclear as to how he had gained access to his victims, since there has been no evidence of forced entry into victim's homes, cars, etc. And
the fact that he has been attacking in the daytime, when women are less likely to have their guard up, means he is pretty BOLD.
So think about it....what gesture is nicer than returning money to someone that dropped it?????
How many times would you have opened your window (or door) to get your money and say thank you.... Because if the person is kind enough to return something to you, then he can't really be a threat....can he????
Please be cautious! This might not have been the serial killer... But any one that gets that angry over someone not accepting money from them can't have honorable intentions. The most important thing to note is that his reaction was NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!
A total surprise! But what might have happened if I had opened my door? I shudder to think!
Forward this to everyone you know....maybe they can be as fortunate as I was!
P.S... Ladies, really DO forward this to EVERYONE you know... Even if this man wasn't a serial killer, he looked nice, he seemed polite, he was apparently doing an act of kindness, but HE WAS NOT A NICE PERSON!!!
Men, send it to all the women in your life.. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. Make it a good one!

Herb, thanks for posting that email.  Very good information for all of us.

One night around 10:00 pm I was alone in the house watching tv when someone rang my door bell.  I asked who it was and he replied "your neighbor".  I said, "my neighbor?  What do you need?"  He said he had just gotten hit by a car and was bleeding and needed to borrow some peroxide and band-aids.  I told him if he was hit by a car I would call the police for him. He told me, "No, don't call the police."  I said okay and immediately dialed 911 and told them what was happening. They said to tell him I had the police on the phone and he was gone in a flash!

It turns out that there had been a couple of home invasions in my area and this was probably one of their MO's. 

It's too bad we have to be so distrusting these days, but we do.  Better safe than sorry.

HBO has a show called "Game of Thrones" set medieval times, it shows a scene where a young woman is heading for the chopping block. She is shown the heads of family members who have gone before her. One of the heads happens to be none other than George W. Bush. The show's producer(?), David Benioff has the following to say....

Another thing about the man acting like he is trying to give you money....

There are drugs and poisons that can be soaked into paper that can soak into your skin. Don't even roll the window down a crack to take anything from anyone unless you recognize them. ESPECIALLY if you see them wearing GLOVES!!

My husband says the Obama administration definitely brought change into our home...a change for the worse in my vocabulary.  He said we dare not even pass through Middleborough, Mass because we'd be in hock to a loan shark for the rest of our lives.  Funny, but kind of sad too.

Anyway, unbelieveable as the following account may sound, this really happened about 20 years ago.  My 84 year old neighbor lady called me and asked if I was okay because she hadn't seen me around for over a week.  I told her I'd been laid up with the flu, and she blurts out, "G** d*** it, I wish I'd have known this yesterday when I had the church prayer team over here.  S***!  We could have prayed for you and knocked this son of a ***** right out of you and back to hell from where it came.  Next time you get sick like that give me a call so we can get the prayer team to kick that business right square in the ***.  There's not a G** d*** reason in the world anyone should have to be suffering like that."  I vaguely remember saying thanks and goodbye.  I had never been dumbfounded like that before in all my years.  Good grief, what a character to be in charge of the prayer group.  Go figure.:shock:

Hoaxes or no, emails like that do at least serve to make us more cautious.  That someone can dream up a detailed (hoaxed) scenario like that shows that that kind of criminal thought is out there.  Now we will start to see it happening as it's given the bad element a crafty idea.

Ted Bundy was known for being intelligent, charming and attractive.  The perfect trifecta to lure his victims in.  Well-liked, socially and politically-connected, excellent-mannered and clean cut....what was there not to trust?  But that's the problem with (evil) sociopaths, you can only judge their intent by the outward appearance and behavior.  Even if you're very gifted at reading people, seeing behind the public mask, these sick puppies can completely deceive and fool you.  You aren't slipping....they are just that good at being nuts or evil and hiding it behind a facade of innocence and purity.

Herb was right to post it no matter what.  I firmly believe Linda was the intended victim of a home invasion.  I conversed with a serial killer many years ago on a rather remote bus stop in Toledo, but thankfully others were around that day...(safety in numbers).  The next week his face was plastered all over the news.  Narrow escapes, but now the world is even more dangerous, filled with psychos and evil-minded barbarians who possess no fear of God.  No wonder it's written that, "and for this reason, the love of many will grow cold."  The Golden Rule, which is basically to love your neighbor as yourself means in it's simplest expression---(agape)love is treating others as you wish to be treated--that's loving your neighbor 101.  Normally to practice that rule, Linda would have had to open her door and help that man.  But she wisely went with Jesus' other warning, "Be as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves.".  She's alive because she understood that the latter saying superseded the Golden Rule in that particular case.  I hope everyone will be more careful these days.  I hope we don't allow ourselves to feel guilty when we have to set aside the Golden Rule in a given circumstance.  Trust yourself.  If it doesn't feel quite right, flee the situation.  Do not let the bad guys put another notch with your name on it in their belt.

And then along comes Vicki, the resident mistress of buzzkill....:(....been one of those days, so please forgive my attitude, which most definitely needs adjustment.  But I had an experience today with a woman, her t-shirt, and her Bible...but it was NOT an encounter that would make one smile.

I did a walk-in to see my doctor, so it's first come, first serve.  One lady was there before me, and the poor thing looked like she was in a lot of pain.  That put me in the #2 slot, also in serious pain, but just the regular stuff, not a crisis like she seemed to be having.  Along comes a woman with a major-league sour expression and a husband whose hygiene, or rather, lack thereof, worn-out, folksy anecdotes, and non-stop, loud chatter started me rethinking the whole, "I snapped," defense, should I decide to club him to death like a baby seal :shock:.  The wife's shooting him dagger eyes the entire time, so he's responding by becoming more exhibitionist by the moment.  With his lips flapping like that, he didn't notice me gathering dried weeds and deftly crafting a voodoo doll of him.  All the while I keep hoping if some poor senior citizen was destined to hit the accelerator instead of the brake that day, she'd at least have the decency to do it with the loud mouth directly in her path.  I'd have laid odds "Deliverance" would have been playing on her stereo system when the epic moment of divine justice landed him on his keyster.  But I digress.

So, the wife, aka, Old Death Ray Eyes, is wearing a t-shirt that was covered with all these sayings about her being baptized in the Spirit and by fire, and saved this and that, blah, blah.  Seriously woman, you find it necessary to be a walking billboard?  This was no nice shirt with simple lines and a slogan or Bible verse...., no, you could have seen this from Voyager on it's way out of the solar system.  In the waiting room she proceeds to complain constantly about the wait, while insulting the staff loudly so she can be sure they hear her.  Wow, she showed them!:X  All that time she had her tape player going. She removes her earphones, leaving the sound up loud enough that I can clearly hear Schofield's King James Version on tape, right down to knowing exactly what verse he was on.  The guys 2 rows back were quoting along with it like a bunch of college kids in a dorm watching "The Wizard of Oz"....you know, "Can Toto come?"  "Yes, Toto too."  I started wondering if the nearby liquor store stocked enough beer for me to forget this miserable encounter, and would I miss my turn if I ran down the block and bought about 50 cases.   Finally an hour and 15 minutes later they start calling us, and guess what???....she lied about when she got there, claimed to be first, and marched in before the other lady and I.

Yes, finally I come to the point.....Her ridiculously flamboyant t-shirt and her forced filling of our air space with the Scriptures were one of the worst testimonies I'd seen in quite a while.  Frankly, the Muslim woman sitting there was nicer, more polite, intelligent and refined than this caricature of a Christian.  The woman probably is a (carnal) Christian.  But if she's going to lie and cheat, make an absolute mockery of Christianity and be a major embarrassment of Him, Whom she claims to serve and represent--then she should have just stayed under the covers and left the rest of us alone.  Sadly--now, that's what I would have called a blessing.

Yep, trust me. I didn't do anything that resembled way out of line (until my e mail to them giving them both barrels). I had one of their shiny badges at one point. Over a period of 9 months give or take, the comments or replies were HEAVILY censored, and the ones that got through and were favorited by many, we're usually gone soon after. It is funny. The ONLY reason I wen't there is because they took over AOL home page. Now for kicks, I will do MoveOn and see how fast I can get banned! :cool:

Looks like this thread has another spread. It goes clear off the monitor. Anyway, I just thought I'd post this. I looked for a clean version of this but was unable to find one. Sorry. This video shows students from a middle school in Greece, NY bullying a school bus monitor to tears. She is 68 years old. Her son committed suicide ten years ago. The little monsters had to reference even that as well. This went on and on, and nobody did anything about it. This is what comes from not correcting your kids, giving them "time-outs" instead of a spanking, (I said spanking, not beating), giving them trophies for coming in last place. Many of you may have seen this, it has gone viral, but this was my first time seeing this, and it's bad. Really bad! One father actually went to apologize for his son's behavior...THIS IS THE PROBLEM! That kid should have been marched in front of those cameras and given an apology himself, not the father! The fireworks display on San Diego bay was messed up and it all went off at once.

they had 4 barges and all of them were supposed to be syncronized, something went wrong with the control system. 

What I find odd is, the fireworks that worked the way they are supposed to don't get squat for comments, but the one that was messed up is a major topic and will be talked about for years.:shock:

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence ?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they? Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants; nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags. Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family
was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward. Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton. At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt. Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months. John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his
children vanished. So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid. Remember: freedom is never free! I hope you will show your support by sending this to as many people as you can, please. It's time we get the word out that patriotism is NOT a sin, and the Fourth of July has more to it than beer, picnics, and baseball games.

Sharon Prudhomme, who owns the restaurant along with her husband, said she’s not discriminating against anybody – and plans on fighting the charges.

“What freaks me out is the state of Pennsylvania is basically agreeing with this guy,” Prudhomme told Fox News Radio. “We’re just a mom and pop. We’re not some big chain like the Olive Garden.”

Prudhomme said the trouble started in April of 2011 when she received the first of several letters from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. The FFRF is a Wisconsin-based organization of “more than 17,000 freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and skeptics,” according to its website.

The FFRF demanded that she stop giving discounts to patrons who brought in a Sunday church bulletin.

The FFRF just loves to go after small towns, small schools, small restaurants. Basically they are bullies who go after any place that they think will be small enough not to be able to fight them. Their tactic is to send threatening letters to the Christian business or organization ordering them to take down or cease to do whatever it is that the FFRF deemed Christian or face being sued. If the business/organization does not comply the FFRF will drag them to court and drag out the proceedings. They do that in order to hopefully bankrupt the business/organization or get them to give up and comply.

The FFRF usually claims that someone from the area is complaining and called them in, but amazingly the one complaining never comes forward to take credit for making the complaint.

They tried their garbage here in Texas. Basically ordered a small E. TX town (Athens Tx) to take down their nativity scene.

Biblical Christianity doesn't fit the world's vision of global solidarity. It hinders progress toward global governance. I've always thought I was relatively intelligent but this one has me stumped.  France just sold some bonds at negative interest rates.  Can anyone tell me why someone would buy government bonds at negative interest rates?

The only reason I can find is safety.  If thye are afraid of a big crash, paying a % or 2 for loss prevention might be a good idea.

The scary thing is, if one large investor sees this as a close possibility, the world economy is in major trouble.

Herb answered your question correctly. We're going to start seeing this kind of thing here. In fact it's already started. A couple months ago there was a story in the paper about a bank taking money from a retirement fund instead of paying the fund interest. I can't remember the name of the bank but the first half was the name of a city or state and the second half was Mellon. Remember when we were kids and looked forward to the red numbers (interest) that would get written into our savings book every six months? Those numbers will soon be negative numbers with a fee to keep our money "safe".

Another issue in this subject is political manipulation. Barack Obama will pay any price to get re-elected. Technically, the Federal Reserve is supposed to be independent but in reality Ben Bernacke is an Obama puppet. Both of them are doing everything they can to make the stock market look good so BHO will be president another 4 years. Nobody seems to complain too loud if they don't get much money from the government bonds they're holding. They don't buy gvt bonds because they want to make money. They buy them because they (falsely) feel safe owning them. People do complain if the stock market drops. The press focuses mostly on the market so Obama and Bernacke are doing many things to create the illusion of a healthy stock market. One of the tricks they use is to flood the market with money and keep rates on bonds and savings ridiculously low. That causes a lot more people to put their money in the stock market instead and is one of the tools Obama uses to give the market the illusion of being healthy. After the election Obama will care less about the market since he won't be elidgible to run again. Obama has his priorities and his #1 priority is Obama. If he really loved America he'd make decisions that would help us in the long run. Obama's economy is designed for one thing...his re-election.

On Sunday, June 10, Home Depot participated in the 2012 Philadelphia Pride Festival.

Home Depot signed on as a "festival" vendor, conducting Kid's Craft Workshops for children in the midst of lewd activities, including nudity and homosexual activities.

Home Depot doesn't see a problem associating itself with the celebration of depravity. But to operate a booth for the purpose of attracting children is unconscionable. The photos at right show the children's booth, although adults obscured our camera's view of the children.

Home Depot knows that transvestites, cross-dressers, and the promotion of gay sex are mainstays at these events. This is where Home Depot set up a children's booth!

So, in the years to come, when the value goes back up and the owner makes money off of the (artificially) low price, does he have to make up the original lender's loss?

There is no reason to refinance a house just because the value is less than what is owed.  Any consideration of the home buyer (not owner, yet) should come form the lender.

I see this whole idea as a HUGE ripoff of the lenders and somehow I see the taxpayer getting stuck for a huge bill.

Main problem, the use of imminent domain for nonpublic use is providing the government with a huge amount of power they are not supposed to have.

City, county, whatever, has to get the money from somewhere to pay the "fair market value" of the condemned properties. Where else but the taxpayers.

Homosexuality Or Liberty- America Must Choose Since We Can't Have Both

America will have to choose between homosexuality and religious liberty, because we cannot have both. 
To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, America cannot endure, permanently, half-straight and half-gay. We are going to have to choose. 
More proof comes from New Mexico, where a state appeals court has issued a ruling that, yes indeed, Christian photographer Elaine Huguenin must pay what is essentially a fine of almost $7,000 for politely declining to photograph a lesbian commitment ceremony.  
In 2006, Ms. Huguenin was approached by a lesbian, Vanessa Willock, who asked her to photograph a commitment ceremony she wanted to stage with her partner. Ms. Huguenin politely declined, citing her deeply held conviction that marriage is exclusively the union of one man and one woman. 
Ms. Willock, by the way, was readily able to find another photographer. 
But that was not enough for Ms. Willock, who like every other homosexual activist in America, will not be content until every Christian is punished, silenced and sent either to his room or to jail for refusing to embrace the homosexual agenda. 
Willock complained to the New Mexico Civil Rights Commission, and got the commission to assess attorney’s fees in the amount of almost $7,000.  
The decision was appealed, and on the last day of May the New Mexico Court of Appeals upheld the 2008 ruling. It has now become a criminal offense in America to act on a sincerely held Christian belief that natural marriage is a sacred institution. 
This all happened in a state, by the way, where lesbian partnerships have precisely zero legal status of any kind whatsoever. 
The judge who issued the ruling explicitly stated that Ms. Huguenin would be well within her rights to refuse to photograph a KKK ceremony, since white supremacists are not a “protected class.” But she dare not refuse to photograph lesbians, who have not just equal rights but extra-special, super-duper rights under politically correct discrimination policies. 
So now we have a court - not just a human rights commission but a tyrannical judge in a black robe wielding his gavel like a hammer - ordering a private business person to violate her most deeply held beliefs and experience a severe penalty if she is unwilling to cravenly capitulate. 
Rulings like this, if not overturned and repudiated forthwith, signal the end of the First Amendment. Essential constitutional rights this photographer has, unalienable rights bestowed on her by her Creator, have been thrown in the shredder by this judge. 
Freedom of religion? Gone. Freedom of association? Gone. All in the interests of promoting the normalizing of aberrant sexual  behavior. 
Bottom line: America must choose between homosexuality and liberty because we cannot have both. Every advance of the homosexual agenda comes at the expense of religious liberty. If gay marriage becomes the norm, it will be the end of the First Amendment. It will become a legal nullity.  
There will be no freedom of religion. If your religious values conflict with the precious agenda of advancing sexual deviancy, your religious values will mean nothing. In fact, you will punished, as Elaine Huguenin was, for holding them and and acting on them. 
Freedom of speech - gone. You will not even be allowed to speak in defense of natural marriage and in opposition to the normalizing of homosexual behavior.  
I have written before that not all discrimination is bad. Discrimination for the wrong reasons is bad, but discrimination for the right reasons is good. This is the standard Martin Luther King, Jr. set for us when he looked forward to the day his children would “live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”  
So even for Rev. King, discrimination on the basis of character is perfectly proper and consistent with the goals of the civil rights movement. 
Sexual conduct is one of the expressions of the “content of character.” 
We must allow Americans - as individuals, in their churches, in their businesses, and yes, in their public policy - to discriminate on the basis of immoral sexual behavior. Since homosexual conduct is immoral sexual behavior - the standard legal term for it is “the infamous crime against nature” - it is an appropriate object of ethically proper discrimination. Americans must be allowed to discriminate on the basis of sexually aberrant behavior, or freedom itself will soon become just a distant memory. 
Freedom of the press - gone. You will not be allowed to express criticism of homosexuality in print. It will be a hate crime and you will be silenced and worse for expressing a time-honored moral value. 
Freedom of association - gone. You will be told that you must do business with those who engage in sexually dangerous practices, you must use your time, talent and treasure to promote their agenda, and you will be punished if you refuse. 
America, it’s homosexuality or liberty. In fact, it’s homosexuality or the Constitution. Take your pick. We can’t have both.

Will you support "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" next Wednesday, August 1st? This day is being called to support a business "whose executives are willing to stand for Godly values", according to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who is also a Baptist minister.

He is being joined with former presidential candidate and senator Rick Santorum and Rev. Billy Graham, who will show their support by visiting Chick-fil-A next Wednesday.

Recently, Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy said that the company was "guilty as charged" for backing "the biblical definition of a family". Also, in a radio interview, Cathy said, "I think we are inviting God's judgement on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage'".

What is up with the history channel pushing the ancient alien theory???

They are really working hard to present a case for them.

I'd like to be able to excuse their silliness by saying The History Channel is challenging for the 2012 Secular Endtime Prophecy Imbecile Award....but I don't think they're doing it because they are a bunch of loony birds who actually think "Fern Gully" was a documentary.  They are doing this to acquire good ratings, and that shows they at least aren't complete numbskulls.  Until we are free of all this Mayan, et all, all the other fruitloop predictions associated with 2012, we'll probably see a lot more where these clips came from.  As it was with Y2K, so it shall be with the Mayan Prohecy and all the wasted speculation and intrigue which surrounds it. 

The HC also shows it's smarts and cunning when they promote the 3-ring circus which is the claim of visitations from alien space bro's. This agenda has at its' heart a complete denial of the Judeo-Christian, non-negotiable tenet underscored in the Apostle's Creed and declared in the Torah....."I believe in God, The Father Almighty, the maker of heaven and earth."  It goes to the oft-debated worldview of evolutionists vs. creationists.  The common denominator of these kinds of shows is their attempt to cause doubts and arguments, but mainly contest the Biblical account that creation was by fiat and occurred in a one-week period.  If intelligent, humanoid life exists 'out there' it would indicate that the evolutionists have been right all these years.  Bring evolution into the mix and Judaism and Christianity are nothing more than wishful thinking, false hopes, and do-gooder codes of conduct to live by.  So, that's the short answer, Herb, even though it probably looks long :D.  Let them 'have at it' and garner their precious ratings....Were the things we believe not true, but rather, a cleverly, carefully laid out hoax by a few fishermen, a tax collector, a physcian and historian, and a reformed hooker...well, the whole sad and deceptive story would have petered out when Peter petered out (at great cost to himself, I might add).   And I would not be sitting here writing this....I'd be inside some damp cave right now, visiting some oracle who would charge me a mint to tell me exactly what I want to hear.;)

They have one showing how the things that happened leading up to the exodos probably happened.  Another about the exodos itself.

It just seems to me that they are pushing the aliens as god theory pretty hard.

I don't have The HC anymore, but when I did I enjoyed a number of their shows and National Geographic's also.  But I was disappointed in THC a few times.  They would put on alleged 'historical' movies that contained a revised or blatantly false account of the details surrounding the event.  They made no attempt before or after such movies ended to address the errors in the scripts.  When I lived in Madelia, MN, they showed a movie about the capture of the notorious Younger Gang.  They managed to offend nearly everyone in that tiny city of 1300 people by inferring that Madelia played only a tiny part in the capture of that gang.  They took the hard work and bravery of Madelia's law enforcement and townfolk and credited Hanska, a nearby little town of 400, with all the strategies and efforts that brought about the capture.  So I learned to be more discerning after that when it came to THC.

The problem I've observed with THC's Bible history programs is that they tend to interview leaders of mainstream, i.e., liberal and sometimes, Marxist, pedigrees.  They invite 1 or 2 token Evangelicals so they can appear to look fair.  Still, I have enjoyed a number of those shows, but keep the  discernment radar plugged in while watching...

Speaking of the Mayan Prophecy, which supposedly happens on Dec. 21, 2012, that's not long after the 2012 election. So, if the Obamination wins re-election, then the end of the world mentioned in the Mayan Prophecy could come to pass....just saying. :D!

What the heck, there was no "negligent operation", he did exactly what he intended.

As for "leaving the scene of an accident", what accident.  He did this on purpose, not by accident.

Intolerance

If someone says you’re intolerant, just what does that mean? Well, it means that you are prejudiced, narrow-minded, a fanatic, biased, chauvinistic, well you know, just an ole stick in the mud. Wow! That sounds really bad, especially knowing that as a very conservative (bad word) Christian (another bad word), I fit the bill! I’m very dogmatic about what I believe, so therefore, I’m an intolerant ignorant jerk, especially since my beliefs don’t coincide with the current flow of horse hockey the liberal left keeps shoveling on my shoes and calling it deliciously aromatic cuisine. No, what they shovel still looks and smells like horse hockey. It is horse hockey!
The general thought of the world around us it to “live and let live,” meaning basically that everyone does their own thing, anything is okay, no consequences for our actions, nothing is our fault, blah, blah, blah, que sera, sera. So if we go against the general consensus of the majority, then we, say they, are a trouble maker.
Being a conservative Christian does not mean that I’m even insinuating that I am perfect or always right. Oh contraire, anyone who knows me would beg to differ. My wife could knock that notion out of the water in a second. So away with that thought.
Being a conservative Christian also does not mean that I’m hiding behind bushes in an attempt to catch someone doing something that I think is wrong, although, that is how we are pictured by the liberal elite, very intolerant of others. Look, I have enough to deal with in trying to keep me in line. I do care if you mess up your life, but it’s your life. If that is what you want, then have at it. I’ll pray for you, but that is all any Christian can do.
To me anyway, a conservative Christian is simply a true Christian who actually believes what the Bible says, the Bible being the very words of God Almighty. Also, we believe that if God said it, then that settles it, and that is the way it should be. Now that is a simplified version, but pretty much it in a nutshell, and yes we are intolerant, if it means we do not accept those standards that are contrary to God’s Word.
Actually, if you think about it, the most intolerant people on the planet are those who claim to be tolerant. That would be the left-wing liberal, goody-two-shoes, tree-hugging, go green, blind, it’s all about me crowd. These idiots are so full of hot air, they could blow up an onion sack, and there sure are a lot of those floating around.
BULLETIN! I know someone who is even more intolerant than the politically self-serving liberals. He is even more intolerant than we mean ole conservative Christians. His name is Jesus. He is God. Let’s see what He says about just a few things.

Well, let’s stop there. This is only a drop in the proverbial bucket out of the Scriptures of what Jesus has said and done. The Apostle John tells us there was much more that was not even recorded in the Scriptures. John 21:25
Obviously, it is not wrong to be intolerant if intolerance means you respectfully
stand on correct principles. So where lies the problem? When the Devil’s crowd accuses Christians of being intolerant, what are they actually saying? They are saying that we do not agree with them, so therefore we are being stubborn, judgmental, and intolerant. Apparently then, the problem with intolerance lies in the source of why we are being intolerant. If my source is my opinion and it conflicts with God’s opinion, then I am being unnecessarily intolerant. However, if I am simply refusing to go contrary to God’s opinion, then my intolerance is in line with my obedience to God, and it is acceptable to Him.
Other words that are related to “intolerant” are bigoted, prejudiced, fanatical, narrow-minded, biased, dogmatic and opinionated. The liberal left would have us believe that any of these words are descriptions of closed-minded Christians. So in other words, if the majority says that two plus two equals five, but I say it equals four, then I’m being intolerant, according to them. Even though the math text book says it equals four, I’m being intolerant. Now does that make any sense?
Think about this, keeping in mind the math text book and our simple math problem, I believe homosexuality is a sin and will be judged by God. The text book, the Bible, confirms my belief. So I agree with God instead of the liberal left, but they say I am intolerant, and they don’t mean it in a nice way.
I believe that if a man and woman live together as a married couple but are not married to each other, it is a sin and will be judged by God. It’s called “shacking up.” The text book, the Bible, says so, but the liberal left screams not so.
I believe that abortion is nothing short of murder, plain and simple. The textbook, the Bible, says so. It is a sin and will be judged by God. So I’m the trouble-maker?! Is that reasonable? Jesus said,
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)
Here is where the problem lies. You can’t reason with someone who won’t listen to reason. Jesus said in the previous verse, “Let’s talk about this and reason this out.” When people are eaten up with sin in their lives and refuse to believe the text book, there is no reasoning with them. They are always right, in their minds, and you are always wrong, in their minds.
What would happen at a basketball game if the referees had to ignore the rule book? You would need no referees. Each player would make their own rules and change them at will. There would be no standard to follow.
This is where society is today. We have thrown out the rule book, the Bible, and there are no standards to follow.
“In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 21:25)
When society gets to this point, and we have, anyone who chooses to follow the rule book, the Bible, is intolerant, judgmental, and a trouble-maker.
Okay, I’m intolerant. If it means that even though I’m not perfect, I insist on following the rule book (textbook), the Bible, then I’m guilty. But if it means I hate my brother because they disagree, then you are guilty, because you falsely accuse.
“Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.” (1 Peter 3:16)
Many Christians today are scared to death to be classified as intolerant. Perhaps that is why they won’t speak up when they know what they are hearing and seeing is totally contrary to the Word of God. Our country is in shambles simply because those who claim to be Christians have chosen to not speak out for Christ.
There may be another reason in addition to “fear.” You may actually believe that which is contrary to God’s Word. If that be the case, God help you. I would rather be intolerant for Jesus Christ and condemned by the world, than tolerant for Satan and accepted by the world. Now you get to choose.

Conservative playwright David Mamet will direct a potential pilot from CBS-TV Studios of a reboot of the 1957-1963 show "Have Gun - Will Travel". No one has been cast yet in the lead role of Paladin played exceptionally well by Richard Boone in the original series.

A new movie has been announced called “jesus of nazareth” (yes, the title is in lower caps). You might want to sit down before I tell you about it.

It's based on a book of the same name and is the most blasphemous of the blasphemous movies that Hollywood has ever tried to force on American families.

The book presents the lie that Jesus was born because a Roman soldier raped a girl named Mary. But you and I can stop this movie from being made!

R.I.P - Neil Armstrong
A great comment I saw elsewhere on the passing of Neil Armstrong, Apollo 11 astronaut and the first man to walk on the moon: "Everyone has their own personal 'countdown' till we leave this world and are brought into the heavens above; Neil Armstrong's 'countdown' just reached the point of 'liftoff'; God speed Armstrong."
